Laeney and I saw the most adorable flower clips

at Once Upon a Child and after buying one,

I realized I needed to craft my own...

So Laeney and I had a little mother/daughter craft time

at home last weekend and made a bunch of flower power

hair clips for her and Finney.

who knew a hot glue gun, some creativity,

and craft time with your preschooler could be so fun!

A great party idea by one of my clients...

a "pink or blue party"!

They had a Pink or Blue Party to reveal the sex of

their soon to be born baby

to all their family and friends.

Friends and family wore pink or blue based on their guess..

and when they cut the cake...the baby's sex was revealed! So fun!

I had so much fun designing their invites and loved being

part of such a creative project!

Our 2010 holiday card...

Here's to hoping yours was merry and bright.

I knew I wanted to design a card that was bright

and not traditional Christmas colors this year.

For a few reasons I guess...

The obvious reason that we are dressed in vibrant colors in the photos and

they were taken when Minnesota was still bright and full of color!

But more importantly, I designed a card around

how I feel when I am surrounded by my little family....happy, bright and merry.

Inspiration for this bag was a dark purple pattern (her favorite color) for the exterior,

and an interior pattern that looked sort of "manly",

so both Katie and her husband could carry it (without embarrassment) when baby arrives!

I love how the interior pattern looks like a man's tie,

but balances so nicely with the exterior feminine pattern.

Love this idea that a client came up with..

a onesie that the mom can write the baby's info

on every month (with a washable marker) and then take

pictures of her growing little boy in the onesie, so she can

see and document how he grows and changes throughout the months!!

This year for Halloween, Laeney decided to be a Super Hero,

which is a dress-up outfit we already had

and Finn wore a Clown costume that my very

talented and creative mother made in 1972.

Boo..not in the Halloween way, but Boo in the Boo-hiss way.

It didn't quite feel like Halloween,

if I didn't have any costumes to make.

I was determined to make something...so I came up with

a few accessories that every Super Hero needs...

lighting bolts for your chucks and gold arm bands!

I made these by cutting 4 lighting bolts out of gold foam sticker paper

and placing 2 back to back. Then hole punched the holes!

They ended up being really sturdy....

1 outdoor Halloween event, 2 Halloween parties,

trick or treating for a couple hours and they are still intact!

Gold Arm bands to fight off any danger...found this fabric as

a remanent in South Dakota for $2. Who would give up this gem?

We celebrated Laeney's 4th birthday party with a science theme...

I created lab badges for the kids to write their names on

and screen-printed their names on their lab aprons.

Their take home gift was candy in test tubes!

And we had over 5 experiments that the

Mad Scientist Daddy came up with!

The kids all had a great time..and the parents did too!

It took me a few years to decide what

to put on the big, open wall in Laeney's room.

The idea came to me one night, after she wanted me

to hang up another one of her masterpieces, and we

had run out of Fridge space, wall space, canvas space...space.

So, I bought two hooks from Anthropologie,

and some nice string and clothes pins from Jo Ann's,

and created her very own "art-line" to display

some of her favorites pieces of work!

I love watching my kids create.

I look forward to every picture they paint, scribble, color and cut.

Maybe it is the artist in me that truly appreciates their creativity,

or maybe I am just a really proud mom.

Needless to say, I have a really hard time throwing their artwork away.

Sure, i have totally recycled the papers that are half colored,

the totally scribbled nonsense, but I sure have kept a lot of "really good ones" too.

My stack of their "good ones" was getting ridiculous.

So, I decided to create a collage on a huge canvas of some of my girl's best pieces.

And so it hangs on the big wall down to their playroom,

where we all admire their beautiful artwork and talk

about all the things we see in the collage.

I even put a "double rainbow" on there for Adam since he can't

stop singing that song! ha!

So briefly..we had a sweet, simple

Christian Dedication for the girls last Sunday,

not because we had to, but because we wanted to.

We found water, as the Bible says to do.

Water that is incredibly symbolic of our love and our family.

Adam and I wrote and lead the dedication and quite simply,

it was special, significant and truly meaningful...

more than I had expected or could have ever imagined.

Laeney decided in August that for Halloween

she wanted to be the Cat in the Hat!

Loved the idea and thought I had plenty of time to get the costume made. Needless to say, the costume frantically got sewn

a few days before our first Halloween event!

It must have turned out okay though, as people recognized her as the Cat in the Hat. I guess maybe the HAT helped too, but hey I will pretend it was my awesome cat costume instead!

I got to say, when I took out the sewing machine last weekend, it felt good!

I decided to make a "hooter hider" to aid with breast-feeding in public! I had seen these at upscale boutiques, as well as, recently at Target. My girlfriend, Anna, borrowed me hers so I could take a look at how it was constructed, and thanks to Tina who found another pattern online. I used both to form a new pattern for the Fiona "hooter hider" below...
